Brentford goalkeeper David Button hopes Marcello Trotta's current goal scoring form is going some way to making up for his penalty horror show at the end of last season.

The Italian hitman scored what proved to be the winner from the spot in Friday's 2-1 win over Gillingham that fired the Bees back to the top of the League One table.

He scored at the same end where he hit the bar against Doncaster Rovers last April, when finding the net would have secured Championship football for the West London club.

And Button reckons the Fulham loan star's exploits on Friday and since returning to the club has put that day firmly in the past.

"That penalty has been talked about quite a lot, but hopefully that goal has put that behind him now," said Button.

"He showed fantastic character to come back to us and that goal shows how important he has been to us over the last couple of months.

"He is on a good run. He is a quality player and he shows his quality in training.

"The fans have taken to him now and, hopefully, he can repay them for last year."
