Croydon Harriers Lawrence is in the running for a English Schools spot
Croydon Harriers Stevie Lawrence put herself in the frame for county selection for the English Schools Championships thanks to a seventh place finish at the Surrey Schools Cross-Country Championships at Reigate, Priory Park on Saturday.
The 16-year-old battled to seventh in the inter-girls race out of 36 competitors, just missing out on one of the top six guaranteed qualifying positions.
The Warlingham School student did however put herself in the frame for the two remaining wildcard picks, with the final squad announced by the county early next month.
Also in action at Reigate, Josh Haasz’s return from injury continued at apace finishing 13th in the senior boy’s race, backed up by Laurence Johnston (23rd) and Kartik Iyer (24th).
In the inter boy’s category, Rob Spalding led way the in 20th, with good grouping from Omar Harhara (40th), Kieron Connor (42nd), Dane Lawrence (44th) and Luke Wakeling (45th) in the same race.
The future looks bright for the Harriers in the younger age groups with a trio of top 30 finishes in large fields of competitors in the primary school races.
Old Palace’s Faith Chen was 11th in the year 4/5 girl’s race in a field of 187 finishers, with Parish Church’s Kyra Sethna-MacIntosh 31st in the same race. Misheel Suvd (Parish Church) was 26th out of 134 in the year six girl’s competition.
Other competitors from the Harriers included: Dylan Lawrence (41st, year 4/5 boys race), Robbie Tambling (36th, year 7 boys), Isaac Flanagan (48th, year 7 boys), Mosope Bamgbopa (81st, year 7 boys), and Caitlin Dixon (86th).
