Guest star Rufus McNaught-Barrington scored a whopping 15 goals to help put Surbiton’s men on course for an immediate return to the indoor national elite league.
Captain Jonny Gall’s men claimed four wins from four in the Maxinutrition Hockey 5s Division One in Bristol at the weekend thanks to the Belgium-based Wales international’s heroics.
American player-coach Rob Schilling and Olympian James Tindall both scored hat-tricks as Surbiton thrashed Southgate 8-5 on Saturday, with McNaught-Barrington and fellow guest player Lewis Prosser netting the other goals.
Hours later Hampstead & Westminster were dismissed 9-6, with McNaught-Barrington’s scoring three times to go with further strikes from Tindall (two), Schilling, Prosser, James Ashcroft and Scott Evans.
But it was on Sunday that McNaught-Barrington really got going as his five goals – added to strikes from Schilling and Prosser – helped dispose of then fellow hundred percenters Team Bath Buccaneers 7-4.
He added six more to take his haul to 15 – with Tindall and Jonny Gall also scoring – to cement Surbiton’s lead at the competition’s half-way point with a 9-2 crushing of Bournville.
This weekend at the same venue Surbiton play Old Loughtonians – currently fourth in the table – and Brooklands Manchester University on Saturday before facing Cannock and Havant on Sunday.
Only a place in the division’s top two will secure promotion.
