Twickenham U23s took the bragging rights off Teddington by winning the inaugural Chris Mapletoft trophy at Parkfields on Sunday.

The new annual challenge – named in honour of the ex-Teddington and Hampton School player who died last year – went the way of the hosts 46-24.

Twickenham’s Jasper Bhamra, Louie Banks, Andrew Fisher, Josh Hughes, Sam Kitch, Dan Rose (two) and Gui Veloso got the tries, while Jamie Doughty bagged three conversions.

For Teddington, Josh Dubey, Nick Dodds, James Frakenburger and Sam Evans went over, while Patrick Donnelly kicked two conversions.

The intention behind the challenge is to attract players, who may have gone off to university and college or simply given up the game after youth level, back into the game.

The trophy was presented to Twickenham’s winning captain Bhamra by Chris Mapletoft’s mother Lesley.
