Wimbledon entered the London Division One South Christmas break on a high with a fifth consecutive win.

Moreover, Saturday’s 16-12 victory at Chobham was sweet revenge for James Ogilvy-Bull’s men.

Last time the sides met, it was Chobham who claimed victory with a last-gasp score.

In a hugely attritional game, played in appalling conditions, Dons did well to hold out for the last 10 minutes playing into the full force of the wind and driving rain.

Particularly with only 14 men as, once again, the blue and maroon of Wimbledon’s shirts seemed to offend the referee, with Rich Stewart’s yellow card following those awarded earlier to Jack Fishwick and Rhys Morgan.

The killer blows for Wimbledon were the two tries they scored just before half time, when wing Pete Scott out-paced his man with ease to finish off flowing backline moves.

Captain Neil Hallett was unable to convert from the touchline and had to be content with contributing just two well-struck penalties.

As it turned out, with Chobham also scoring two tries and converting one, those two penalties were the difference between the sides.

Wimbledon’s next match is at home on January 4, when they take on Cobham, just one place lower in the league.

Dons will again be looking for more revenge, after an ignominious 32-3 defeat at Cobham back in September.
