Peter Chambers spearheaded Croydon Harriers’ men’s team in their 2XU Surrey cross-country league division two opener at Richmond Park on Saturday by taking overall victory.
The 18-year-old UCL student led an early three-man break-away, that also included clubmate David White and Epsom’s Ollie Garrod.
Chambers eventually prevailed in the latter stages of the 5-mile race to take the spoils in 27 minutes, 10 seconds - 19 seconds clear of Garrod. White was third in 28:29.
The pair were backed up by promising junior prospects Alex Penfold (16th, 28:50) and Harvey White (17th, 28:55).
The remainder of the scoring 10 consisted of David Brown (32nd, 30:38), Alan Burn (42nd, 31:01), Jaran Finn (47th, 31:29), debutante Kennedy Mogere (59th, 32:20), Neil Aikman (75th, 33:00) and Colin Oxlade (76th, 33:01).
A further nine Harriers provided non-scoring support.
With three fixtures remaining, Croydon lie second in the nine-team division.
At the Amsterdam Marathon, Mohsin Harhara clocked a new life-time best of three hours, 16 minutes and 38 seconds.
At the Cabbage Patch 10-mile road race, Simon Loughran was 62nd in 1.00:23 seconds in a field of nearly 1,600 finishers. Neil Aikman was 151st in 65:36.
