Hampton & Richmond Borough striker Charlie Moone might be gutted for defender Alan Bray, but he insisted happier times will return to the Beveree sooner rather than later.
Bray fractured his arm in two places on Wednesday, which saw the abandonment of Hampton’s clash with Met Police, with the Beavers 1-0 ahead thanks to Moone’s early strike.
Had joint-boss Paul Barry’s men held on for the win it would only have been their side’s second success of the season under the new management team.
Moone might also have been talking about his third goal of a season that has not sparked into life, with Hampton currently sitting in the Premier League’s bottom four.
But the Station Road hotshot reckons there are signs the squad is turning the corner despite Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to Maidstone United.
“It has been a bit of a slow start, but we started much better on Wednesday and that has been our problem,” he said.
“It is a new management team and while the squad is virtually the same as last year, they have their own ideas and want us to play a certain way.
“We had a good start to the season last year, but we couldn’t sustain it.
“Hopefully, we are building something that is going to last. We just need to get some momentum and that is coming.”
Bray is Hampton’s only other goalscorer this term and Moone admitted his loss would be felt.
“Everyone is absolutely gutted for AJ. I couldn’t see what happened but it was a bad injury and it is a blow,” added the striker.
