Bees will face a big test to blunt the Blades, says Rosler
By Bruce Archer
Brentford manager Uwe Rosler believes this weekend’s League One tie against Sheffield United will provide his side with the ultimate test.
The Blades suffered heartbreak last season as an 85th-minute goal from Yeovil’s Ed Upson saw their promotion hopes dashed in the play off semi-final second leg.
Former Everton defender David Weir is embarking on his first managerial role with the Blades, and his side are among the favourites to push for promotion this season, along with the Bees.
Rosler said: “We will get the ultimate test. They were very good last season and play in a different style to us.
“Last Friday, I watched them and they have the same core of players as last year and some exciting additions and they will be a threat for us, no question. After that game we will know where we are.
“I know him (Weir), we had contact a few times regarding players from Everton, and he’s already put his signature into the team and I think it will be a great test for us, and after that we’ll know a little bit more.”
Brentford beat United 2-0 at home and picked up a point at Bramall Lane last season and Rosler believes both teams will be there or thereabouts again come the business end of the season.
Rosler also suggested he may have some concerns with the fitness of his squad this time around.
He said: “The season has started earlier so there are less midweek games. The squad needs competitive fixtures to get up to speed. It’s important we play and a cup run would be good for this.”
Brentford beat League Two side Dagenham and Redbridge 3-2 in the Capital One Cup after a stoppage time winner from Farid El Alagui on Tuesday night.
