Walton Casuals boss Danny Carroll described his team’s performance in the 6-1 home defeat to Worthing as “absolutely appalling”.

The Casuals remain second from bottom in Ryman Division One South, and they go to fellow strugglers Whitstable Town on Saturday.

Carroll said: “I would call Saturday a desperate day at the office.

“Something to forget about and move on from. We started well for 10 minutes. Then we allowed Worthing to get a foothold and from then on we were absolutely appalling.”

He added: “As a team we just did not defend well enough.

“We’ve conceded sloppy goals before and we’ve worked hard in training on defensive shapes and defending set pieces but for whatever reason all that went out the window on Saturday.”

The defeat marked the debut of central defender Matt Drage, a recruit from Staines Town.

Carroll said: “For 10 minutes, Matt did well but even he dropped off after that.

“We’re fighting for survival in this league and I remain confident we will be all right – however, if we play like we did against Worthing between now and the end of the season, we won’t be.”

Greg Andrews has been released by mutual consent – he has joined rivals Merstham.

Carroll said: “After 14 games it just was not happening for Greg.”
