Rugby World Cup will call on Games Makers
7:00am Monday 7th January 2013 in Sport By Stuart Amos
On familiar territory: 2015 Rugby World Cup chairman Andrew Cosslett takes a trip down memory lane at former club Weybridge Vandals last week
A former Weybridge Vandals captain has promised the 2015 Rugby World Cup will unite the English game in the same way the London 2012 Olympics did.
And organising committee chairman Andy Cosslett, who skippered the Brownacres club in the mid-80s, reckons that starts with enlisting the help of the country’s Games Makers.
“This is a big event. It is £200 million worth of tickets. It is in 13 or 14 venues across the country. It is the world’s third biggest sporting event,” said Cosslett.
“We want a rugby tournament that is full of the values of the game, that is delivered in a way that attracts and talks to different audiences.
“We need a lot of volunteers. Some people from the Olympics have already put their names forward.
“We’d like rugby people already involved in volunteering in the game at the clubs.
“Six or eight months from now that process will start.”
