A teenager has the 2012 Olympics on his mind after winning two bronze medals in an international rowing competition earlier this month.

John Collins, 18, was part of the British team competing at the Coupe de la Jeunesse, which attracts 300 junior rowers from 11 European nations, in Varese, Italy, on the first weekend in August.

Along with his partner George Caines, from Nottingham Rowing Club, the teenager from Tideway Scullers School in Chiswick, finished third in the double sculls events on both the Saturday and the Sunday of the regatta to bring home two bronze medals.

John, who has only been rowing seriously for 18 months, has already rowed twice at Henley Royal Regatta, represented his country at the Munich Junior Regatta and won the Pairs Head of the River Race with former Olympian Tim Male.

His next target is the British under 23 team and long-term the London Olympics in five years time.
