Marathon Swimming Challenge

Next time you go for a dip in your local pool to cool off this summer, think of Elisabeth Galvin who is swimming 14km down the Thames to raise money for clean-water projects in India and Nepal.

Elisabeth, who swam across the English Channel in 2002, has been training hard for the challenge on Sunday 6 August from Henley-on-Thames to Marlow. “Living in East Sheen near the Thames means I’ve really enjoyed training in the river,” says Elisabeth. “I get some funny looks though – some canoeists who passed me near Kingston said I was half dolphin!”

Elisabeth trains up to two hours at a time both in the swimming pool and open water. On 14 July this year she took part in a relay crossing from England to France with her sister and four other swimmers.

“I love open-water swimming and I am looking forward to the Thames Marathon challenge. I am so pleased to be swimming for FRANK Water, which improves people’s access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene in India and Nepal. Please sponsor me if you possibly can.”
