Petersham and Ham Sea Scouts founded in 1908 are appealing to your readers for information to shed light on a Spitfire fuselage that is said to have been buried in Douglas House Meadow the scout field.
All we have as evidence is a brief mention in our history notes and a photograph that members have seen of it standing in front of the HQ. Finding it could boost their building fund for their 'New Phoenix', new hut building project standing at about £350,000 to date.
The quote from a building contractor is £756,000 plus VAT. By August this year planning permission will run out. Some building work would need to have been done by then to keep the permission valid.
The Spitfire could reduce the funding gap and so could grants, donations and interest free loans repayable over 5, 10 years or less. Any information about the Spitfire and help with funding from our well wishers would get us closer to our goal.
