My son and two grandsons took me to Brentford on Sunday for the Brighton game. A lifelong Albion supporter since my first game in 1946, we were in the New Road Stand for what, (for my team)

was a critical game.

As I am disabled the stewards were very helpful and I managed to get seated. All seemed to be going well until the Bees scored. Everyone around stood, leaving me seated among a sea of legs - a very dark place in my misery. When the second goal went in the dark forest of trees were there again, and my misery was complete.

My day should have been over at 2-0 down with a penalty against us to come, but our David Stockdale saved his third penalty in recent games and we were not yet dead.

My moment of madness was on me minutes later when we scored. I clambered to my feet in jubilation to find that I was the only person standing. The trees were all seated and thousands of angry Bees stared down at me.

My son suggested that I should not repeat the exercise if we scored again. When we did soon after I stayed seated but turned round with arms aloft. Same reception. And same warning. After that I just went with the flow as 2-2 became 2-3. And when the equaliser went in it was time to go. I was drained.

A brilliant match and a fair result. Brentford are every bit as good as us, and have cost us five points, which might be critical. And the trees were fantastic, even if a little bemused at how they hadn't won.
