Hampton Hill artist and printmaker Gill Smith has been selected as one of 16 London based artists to take part in the Department for International Trade's delegation London Calling to the Affordable Art Fair, Milan in February.

The Department's stand will feature three pieces from Smith's Synergy series. These works all explore different aspects of visual movement and moiré effects, showcasing her fascination with visual perception and the visual illusions of Op Art.

She says: "I am primarily a printmaker and prints are often thought of as flat, one-dimensional artworks. But my work ranges from playing with geometric design - simple circles and stripes - to these more illusional 3D pieces looking at light and movement. "All 16 artists will be represented at the AAF by GoFigurative, an arts consultancy, with a specific aim of encouraging international sales and representation - it is a great opportunity."

The trade delegation is part of the Department's GREAT campaign. The AAF, Milan opens to the press and invited guests and VIPs on 9th February and to the general public 10th - 12th February. www.gillsmithprints.co.uk
