President Roger Barnett said: "I write to express our great appreciation for the wonderful generosity shown by residents of our area. Despite the very difficult financial circumstances we were able to achieve a record collection of £8,521.
"This has enabled us to provide immediate help to ten local groups, both for the young and for the elderly, who are in need of assistance, as well as several individuals in distressed circumstances.
"We would like to assure you that your kindness really did make a difference and we thank you enormously."
