A newly-designed flag was raised on the round tower of Strawberry Hill House to celebrate the news the Strawberry Hill Trust had received Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) support for phase two of the restoration of the house and grounds.

The project aims to restore the five remaining rooms which were not completed in the 2010 restoration, and to launch a new public programme, Walpole and the Wider World.

Great news for Strawberry Hill House.

But down the road at Marble Hill House thing are not as rosy. Opening hours have been cut to the bone - only a few tours each weekend now. Even the fabric of the house is at risk due to rising damp that English Heritage can't fix yet due to their budget being cut.
