Veterans welcomed Princess Alexandra to the Royal Star and Garter home when she paid them an informal visit.
The princess chatted to people as they enjoyed a coffee shop event.
She met Cecilia Pollock, who will soon celebrate her 101st birthday and is the oldest person at the Richmond Hill care home, and Violet Butler, whose husband was killed in the Second World War. They presented the royal visitor with a special posy.
The princess, president of the Royal Star and Garter homes, which cares for disabled ex-servicemen and women, took a look around the Battle of Britain suite, where she met nurse care manager Katie Laverick and her deputy Lauren Crump.
Staff also brought her up to date with progress at a new care home in Surbiton, where the charity is due to move next year when it sells its Richmond Hill site
