A school for children with learning disabilities is set to receive thousands of pounds after a World Cup winning rugby star got on his bike for charity.

Along with staff from the Richmond branch of the Listening Company - a contact centre in Church Road - Lawrence Dallaglio set off on the last leg of a nationwide 1,000 mile charity cycle ride last Thursday, raising money for Strathmore School.

The ride, which started in Brora, northern Scotland, on June 1 and travelled across the highlands to Glasgow before passing through Newcastle and Tonbridge, was welcomed into Richmond by the town’s mayor, Councillor Celia Hodges.

Lawrence and co completed the Tour de Listening trek by cycling to Portsmouth and raising what organisers hope will be thousands for Strathmore School in Petersham, which caters for youngsters between seven and 19 who have different levels of learning difficulties.

Lawrence, the company’s director of motivation, said: “The Tour de Listening has been a fantastic success and I was proud to be involved in the final stage of the journey.

“The money raised and support received is testament to the calibre of the staff at the Listening Company and will make a difference to many people’s lives.”
