A “dog free” space and play area is being proposed for Suffolk Road Recreation Ground.

The space, in which the council is proposing a new play area be built, would be along the right hand side of the park as you enter from Suffolk Road.

The play area would include a mixture of natural and traditional play, including a small sandpit.

A sensory garden and a new access point for those who are less mobile would be added in time.

The Council also wants to plant new shrubs, trees and a wildflower meadow, as well as install additional seating throughout the recreation ground.

Councillor Pamela Fleming, cabinet member for environment, business and community said: “The borough’s parks are the envy of the country and we are always looking at ways to improve the experience our residents have when visiting them.

“Under the proposals Suffolk Road Rec will be able to offer something for everyone to enjoy.

“If you use the park and would like to have a say on its future development this is a great opportunity do so.”

Richmond Council and Friends of Suffolk Road Recreation want to hear from the public on the proposed changes.

The consultation runs until October 10. Have your say here
