Richmond police are stepping up their street patrols and reviewing upcoming event preparations following the horrific terrorist attack in Manchester.

After a suicide explosion ripped through Manchester Arena killing 22 people, including an eight-year-old girl, yesterday police in Richmond said they are reviewing their security for the borough.

Armed police have arrested a 23-year-old man in Chorlton, south Manchester in connection with the attack which also injured a further 59 people.

Parm Sandu, Police Borough Commander for Richmond said: “Following last night’s terrorist attack in Manchester, the Metropolitan Police is stepping up patrols on the streets of London to protect all our communities in the capital and our borough."

To ensure the residents and local businesses protection there will be additional officers – both armed and unarmed – patrolling the streets.

“Richmond upon Thames Police are reviewing the preparations for upcoming events in light of this attack and are working closely with partners in order to protect and reassure those who attend these events,” the Commander added.

“Investigations by Greater Manchester Police and the Northwest Counter-Terrorism Unit are continuing and colleagues in The Met will be doing all we can to support them in this work.”
