A teenage former St Mary’s University student killed himself at his family home in Dorset after splitting up with a girl he had met at the university, an inquest heard.

Harry Stallworthy, 19, was found hanged by his mother at their home on Sunday, April 24 – and yesterday it was concluded he took his own life at an inquest held in Bournemouth.

Mr Stallworthy had attended St Mary’s University, in Strawberry Hill in September 2015 but left and returned home two months later.

The inquest, held on Thursday September 8, heard Mr Stallworthy had been involved in a relationship with a girl there and was still in contact with her at the time of his death.

The Coroner was told he had been urged by a friend the evening before his death to cease communication with her.

He went to a friend's house on Saturday, April 23 and returned home at 11pm. When his mum woke the next morning she found his body.

His father, Matthew Stallworthy said: “I thought he would get over it. They were still texting each other. He must have really liked her.

“He was a very bright boy."

His mother, Hayley Stallworthy told the inquest she knew her son had been in a relationship, but she had not realised it had gone as far as it had.

She said: "He was doing really well and was enjoying working. He had a lot of friends and seemed happy."

Recording a verdict that he took his own life, Mr Sheriff Payne said: "This is a very sad case indeed. He had done very well at school and got a place at university.

"He was a straight-forward lad doing everything as normal.

“The only glimmer is that possibly this relationship is something he was paying more attention to and had high significance.

"This was not a cry for help. He knew that this was going to be fatal."
