An attacker is still at large after stabbing two people, including a woman believed to be pregnant, during a daylight attack.

Witnesses said the knifeman approached the woman from behind before stabbing her.

Police said the knifeman was known to his victims, both stabbed in Kirton Close, just off Chiswick High Road, at about 6.15pm on Monday, September 5.

Paramedics and an air ambulance were dispatched.

Police say the woman's injuries are not life threatening, but there was no update on the man who was stabbed.

Shocked witnesses told how the attacker threw his knife over a wall and fled.

The knifeman is still on the run, police confirmed on Wednesday.

One witness reported seeing a young woman being treated for what appeared to be "neck injuries" as paramedics attended to a man lying by the road.

An air ambulance landed on nearby Turnham Green.

Mary McVey, 53, said: "While I didn't see the attack I witnessed the aftermath.

"I was just leaving a shop when I heard a lady shout 'Stop! Stop!' I don't know if that was to her attacker or to the police.

"By the time I was out of the shop, she was conversing with police officers whose car was at the traffic lights by The Lamb (pub).

"She was bleeding from the back of her neck and I heard her say that someone had just come up behind her and stabbed her.

"There was a gentleman who I think must've witnessed the attack who told the officers that the assailant was still nearby and one of the officers went off with him.

"The other officer was looking after the victim and administered first aid. She was fully conscious and coherent throughout, but clearly very distraught and in shock.

"While she was bleeding, it wasn't profusely. I think- and hope - the air ambulance was a precaution."

Bryan Vickery, 45, said: "A man was stabbed at the crossing on Dolman Road, in front of the health centre.

"The attacker walked by my car with the knife in clear view. I watched him off towards Sainsbury's and throw the knife over a wall and reported it to the police officers.

"I saw the man on the crossing opposite the health centre in Dolman Road where he fell down and got treatment.

"The attacker threw the knife over a wall, in Dolman Road, as he headed towards Sainsbury's. I think that wall is for the school playground."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "Police were called at about 6.15pm to reports of two people stabbed in Kirton Close, Chiswick.

"Officers, paramedics and London's Air Ambulance all attended the scene.

"The victims - a man and a woman - have been taken to hospital for treatment. The woman's injuries are not life threatening; we await a condition update for the man.

"Officers believe the pair was attacked by a man who then fled the scene. It is believed all parties are known to each other.

"There have been no arrests; inquiries continue. Officers from Hounslow are investigating. Road closures remain in place around Kirton Close."
