Police closed down a ‘large cannabis farm’ today which was reportedly growing commercial-scale quantities of cannabis.
Richmond police tweeted that a drug warrant had been executed on Wednesday, August 17 at the farm in Sheen Court, in North Richmond.
Around 140 cannabis plants were found and seized in evidence after police entered ‘by force’.
A man found in the property was arrested on suspicion of drug cultivation, electrical tampering and immigration offences.
The police were tipped off by residents who believed the property was holding a ‘large-scale’ cannabis farm, police said.
Police supervisor for the north Richmond ward, Sgt Rich Nelson said: “We had information from local residents saying they believed cannabis cultivation was happening there.
“We searched the property after one officer obtained a warrant.
“We arrived this morning and entered by force.
“Inside it was all professionally laid-out equipment of a high standard.
“It was three separate rooms.
“They were running so many lights and extensions.
“The Electrical Board has since come out to assess the electrical issue and the power meters.”
Equipment was taken away and stored in evidence, Sgt Nelson said, and the property may be seized.
