An online map shows which properties have been bought by overseas companies.

The map, created by Private Eye magazine using Land Registry Data between 2005 and 2014, includes hundreds of properties across south London and north Surrey including:

- homes owned by companies in Bermuda, Liberia, Jersey, Panama, Australia and the British Virgin Islands.

- shopping centres

- development sites

- the site of the future US Embassy

The list includes companies with non-UK addresses as well as those set up in tax havens to take advantage of tax laws.

In Kingston mansions on Coombe Hill costing up to £5.5m are owned by companies based in the British Virgin Islands, Panama, the Seychelles, Liechenstein, Mauritius and the Cayman Islands.

Kingston's Rotunda cinema leisure complex is owned by Rotunda Kingston Unit Trustee No 1 Limited, based in Jersey.

The Wilko building (£9.86m) on Clarence Street is registered with French bank BNP Paribas based in Jersey.

The Little Italy restaurant building (£1.42m) at the end of Old London Road is owned by Carno S.A.R.L, a Luxembourg company. While, the £26.7m office building on Wood Street, backing onto Fife Road is owned by Swedish pension fund Alecta Pensions For Sakring Omsesidigt.

In Twickenham Ryde House (£5.7m) is owned by Lidl UK whose registered address is Germany.

In Elmbridge Wisley Airfield - a huge potential development site - is owned by Wisley Property Investments Limited, based in the Cayman Islands.

The motorway service station at Cobham is headquartered in Jersey.

One of the grandest homes in the borough Upper Court (£6.5m), Portsmouth Road, between Cobham and Esher is owned by the Almaty Worldwide Corporation based in Panama.

In Wimbledon, the building rented by social housing Circle Housing, the Grange at 1 Central Road, Morden, is owned by Arvan Limited in the Isle of Man.

The Nuffield health complex which also contains the Odeon cinema, is owned by F and C Commercial Property Holdings based in Guernsey.

The shopping complex by Wimbledon station is owned by Kleinwort Benson based in the Channel Islands.

In Wandsworth the Sainsburys (£51.384m) in Garratt Lane is also owned by Kleinwort Benson.

The US Embassy site (£64.195m) is owned by the United States of America, while the Battersea Power Station Project land company (£309m) is headquartered in Jersey.

In Epsom the Banstead Estate (£4m) is registered to Elmswell Limited based in the Isle of Man.

In Sutton Quadrant House where this newspaper rents space is owned by the Ayrshire Real Estate Property Limited and registered in the British Virgin Islands.
