Going out for a bite to eat with the kids can be tricky, but thankfully these great restaurants and cafes in south London make it simpler.

We rounded up some of the region’s best child and baby-friendly places to eat, whether it’s a good kids’ menu or something fun to keep them entertained.

Cornish Tiger, Battersea

A British fusion restaurant with visually stunning dishes may not immediately spring to mind as somewhere to take the kids but as well as fresh, seasonal food and reasonably priced set menus, Cornish Tiger has its own reading corner with specially-selected books for children under five. The restaurant is very welcoming and is a Diner’s Choice on Open Table and an Award of Excellence winner on TripAdvisor.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

Cafe Fleur, Wandsworth

This independent cafe and purveyor of fine French and British-inspired breakfasts and lunches, cakes and coffees in St Ann’s Hill has a kids menu and is happy to hold parties, cake baking and other afternoon activities for little ones.

Smugglers Cafe, Putney

This cute Cornish-inspired cafe has sand art to keep children entertained where they use coloured sand to make a picture to take while you enjoy your cream tea or maybe the chocolate and strawberry fudge cake.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

Pizza Express, just about everywhere

Not only is Pizza Express a reliably good place for a bite to eat (and it seems like there’s always a deal to be had online) but it is also good for children. The chain had a new piccolo menu, pizza making parties, and activity sheets to keep them occupied.

Dizzy’s Diner, Beckenham

Classic American food will always appeal to a child’s sense of fun and at Dizzy’s you’ll get great cocktails and ribs while your child can tuck in to the kids’ menu with a free drink and free ice cream after.

Babycakes, East Sheen

This independent cafe has TripAdvisor reviewers raving over its cakes. It’s also very welcoming of mums and dads and their children, being deliberately set up to be child-friendly and easy to navigate with a buggy.

Red Peppers, Teddington

Red Peppers does food from around the world as well as a pleasingly-priced child’s menu which includes a drink and dessert. It also offers goodie bags and colouring.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

The Bolingbroke, Battersea

This gorgeous pub near Wandsworth Common may not look like the kind of place you can take the kids (or dog) but it totally is. Furry friends are welcome (they’ll even get doggy biscuits and water) and children are specially treated. There’s a good menu for under eights as well as toys, crayons and even the chance for tots to decorate their own cupcakes. Restaurant guide Hardens called it one of the top UK restaurants for kids in 2011 and the Michelin guide also described it as child-friendly.

Richmond and Twickenham Times: Carluccio's Bluewater gives children Italian cooking lesson

Carluccio’s, all over

Another Italian restaurant with consistently great meals and a positive attitude towards families. As well as a children’s menu, there are also crayons available.
