A girl was saved by lifeguards and paramedics when she almost drowned at Hampton Pool.

The five-year-old, who was at the pool with her father and sisters on Friday, July 24, followed her siblings down a slide and got into difficulty in the water, according to a spokeswoman from YMCA, which runs the centre.

The spokeswoman said the girl stopped breathing and lifeguards performed CPR on her before an ambulance arrived eight minutes later.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 4.02pm to Hampton High Street to reports of an incident.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew and advanced paramedic.

"We treated a girl. She was taken as a priority to hospital."

The centre received a call from the hospital and staff were told the girl had made a full recovery.

The YMCA spokeswoman said: "Luckily the lifeguards were able to do what they needed to do and the little girl was fine.

"It sounds as if all the training we give them kicked in and a situation that could have been an absolute disaster was averted."
