Richmond Park and North Kingston MP Zac Goldsmith has made the Conservatives' 2016 London Mayoral Election shortlist.

He has been selected as the party's potential candidate and will campaign across London, hoping to see off competition from party rivals Andrew Boff, Syed Kamall and Stephen Greenhalgh.

Former England footballer Sol Campbell, who recently campaigned for the Conservatives in Kingston for the Grove byelection, failed to make the cut.

The chosen four will take part in hustings in September and the primary will be open to anyone in London who is on the electoral roll.

The successful candidate will be announced at the end of September.

The Tories' London regional chairman Ian Twinn said: "We have four excellent candidates who will now campaign across London over the summer before all Londoners will get the opportunity to vote in our primary in September."

Mr Goldsmith is the bookies' favourite to win the contest at 7/4 with Labour's Tessa Jowell and Sadiq Khan also fancied at 2/1 and 3/1 respectively.
