A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a rugby fan at Twickenham station, sparking a police appeal to find this man in a red jersey.

The incident took place after the Army vs Navy rugby match at Twickenham Stadium on May 9, when passengers boarded the 5.28pm train to Reading.

The 35-year-old victim, who was already sat on the train, was allegedly “grabbed” by a man, thought to be wearing an Army rugby top.

He was part of a group of four men, all wearing rugby shirts, and he allegedly held on and laughed as the woman tried to pull away.

Police Constable Katherine Billingham said: “The station was very busy and a large number of people boarded the 5.28pm train to Reading.

“A group of four men wearing Army rugby tops sat next to a 35-year-old woman who was already on the train.

“One of the men grabbed the woman and started kissing her.

“She tried to pull away but he held on laughing as she struggled to free herself from his grasp.”

The woman reported the incident at Reading station, where British Transport Police viewed CCTV footage, isolating images of a man they believe can help with their enquiries.

It is thought the man alighted at Reading and went on to board a train to Hereford.

PC Billingham added: “The man may have thought his actions were funny but this was an uncomfortable and frightening experience for the woman.

“She made it clear that his advances were unwelcome but he persisted anyway, restraining her in the process.

“This sort of unwanted sexual behaviour is not acceptable and we work hard to tackle it.”
