Two shoplifters who donned wigs and disguises while they attempted to steal from a shop in Richmond have pleaded guilty to going equipped to steal.

Cheryl Gray, 49, and Michelle Flanagan, 42, travelled from Islington and Hackney to Richmond last October and were found in possession of a security de-tagging device while attempting to steal designer goods from House of Fraser in George Street.

Police received a call on the townlink radio, alerting them to two women acting suspiciously in the store. One of the duo changed her clothes and put on a wig to avoid the gaze of CCTV while the other called her partner to alert her they had been discovered.

The pair initially denied the charge but pleaded guilty after extensive evidence was played at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on May 19.
