A 13-year-old girl was raped by a riverside path between Kingston and Hampton Court Palace, police have said.

The girl was attacked in a grassy area near Barge Walk by an Asian man aged somewhere between his late teens and early twenties, on Sunday, May 17.

Police say she met the man the day before in Camden and agreed to meet him.

He was wearing blue jeans and a dark coloured leather jacket.

They want to speak to a couple who were walking toward Hampton Court, remembered by the victim. The woman, who police said asked about the girl's welfare had a blonde bob, fair skin and was wearing a denim jacket.

Barge Walk runs between Kingston Bridge and Hampton Court Palace along the River Thames.

DC Pete Condron of the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said:

"I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious or has information to contact us immediately.
