Police were called at 8.26am to the junction between St Margarets Road and Sandycoombe Road.

The road remains closed while police recover one of the vehicles involved, causing traffic problems in the surrounding area.

Nobody sustained any injuries, police confirmed.

Witness Lionel Derimais said: "I didn't see it happening but the police were letting cars go through just one lane.

"The car was totalled and so was the traffic light.

"I have no idea how it happened, it is all quite bizarre."

Another witness Jordan Kitching, who lives in Cambridge Park, said he was hit by flying debris after the crash.

He added: "I was walking to the train station with my headphones in, a school girl walking in front of me looked like a deer in headlights.

"Then I was knocked in the back of the knees by some of the debris.

"I rushed back to see if everyone was okay, a few seconds earlier and it could have been pretty nasty.

"I'm not entirely sure how it happened, it was a clear pretty straight road, no one was crossing - pretty bizarre."
