Two builders had a lucky escape after a house fire in Ham this morning.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters from Twickenham, Richmond and Surbiton fire stations were sent to Riverside Drive at 10.58am and the blaze was brought under control by 11.34am.

Lisa Hicks, station manager, said: "Two builders who were working on the property got out before we arrived and were both uninjured.

"Firefighters quickly put the fire out and contained it to the roof."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
