A schoolgirl from Barnes has just missed out on winning Denmark's Got Talent.

Anna Haestrup, 11, took to the stage and sang Panis Angelicus in the final on Saturday, March 7, after being chosen by the four judges as their wildcard act.

Her performance was kept a secret until the night of the final and a teaser video shown to viewers said the wildcard performer "had to be this person as this person is a true artist who is so passionate and is within what she is doing".

Despite not winning the competition, Anna, of Lowther Road, still achieved her dream of reaching the last stage of the competition, was praised by the judges and received rapturous applause.

Her mother Hanne said: "I was so extremely proud of her and relieved as well that it went so well and so happy because she looked as if she enjoyed it. It was magical to see her and to hear the audience’s reaction."

Ms Haestrup said her daughter, who is a member of the choir at St Mary's Church, Barnes, was happy and grateful to the judges to be in the final and realistic about her chances of winning the competition.

Beatboxer Thor Mikkelsen won the show but Ms Haestrup said Anna's appearances were well-received both in the UK and in Denmark.

She added: "It has been fantastic from most people, a few have been extremely sweet and have sent her cards and emails.

"She has a small fan base now on her Facebook page and Instagram, none of which she had before the competition, and they have been so extremely supportive.

"We are overwhelmed by some of the comments she has received and very grateful to every single one who makes the effort to write to her."

As for the future, Anna will continue singing, acting, dancing and playing the violin and her mother said she would not be surprised if her daughter ends up with a career within the performing arts.
