A schoolgirl from Barnes is hoping to sing her way to the final of this year's Denmark's Got Talent.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

Anna Haestrup, 11, was encouraged to participate in the competition after a friend heard her sing at a dinner party in the Scandinavian country in August.

Just days later, Anna, who has been singing in choirs since the age of six, attended the audition and sang into a microphone for the first time after waiting for 10 hours and seeing many acts turned away with a no from the judges.

Her mother Hanne said: "Once the music started and she had sung a few notes she just sang as she normally does.

"She was very happy when she was told she was going to the live shows and she is really looking forward to it."

Anna and her mother, who live in Lowther Road, will return to Denmark on February 12 for rehearsals before the live show two days later.

If voted through by the public, Anna will sing again in the semi-final shortly after.

The talented youngster, who is a member of the choir at St Mary's Church, Barnes, is also lead violinist and head of the orchestra and chamber orchestra at Kensington Prep School in Fulham.

Ms Haestrup said: "I am very proud of Anna and watching her on stage in Denmark when everybody stood up and applauded her was just amazing.

"I was equally proud when she recently sang a solo in St Mary’s church in Barnes, Daniel Turner [head of the choir] does a fantastic job with the choir there.

"Anna is so passionate about her music and I have never had to ask her to practise violin or singing, she just loves it and dancing and drama too."
