A sell out Christmas carol service raised £14,000 for Home-Start Richmond.

Pat MacDonald-Brown and Cathie Sacre, both from Barnes, organised the event at St Mary's Church on Thursday, December 4, and it was attended by more than 300 people including patron of the charity, Baroness Susan Kramer, and deputy mayor of Richmond Councillor Peter Buckwell.

The Barnes Community Choir sang Once in Royal David's City and soprano Charlotte McGowan treated attendees to a moving performance.

Dignitaries including MP Zac Goldsmith also read passages to the congregation.

Martina Philips, manager of Home-Start Richmond, said: “This is the seventh carol service organised by Pat and Cathie and we are so grateful to them. This is a record amount that has exceeded all our expectations.

“All the money raised tonight will go straight towards supporting children and families who need our help in Barnes and surrounding areas.”
