The death of a builder who fell through a porch in Whitton was accidental, an inquest heard on Wednesday.

Mick Fisher, 52, from Shepperton, was working at a house in Hospital Bridge Road on April 15, this year, when he suffered a fatal fall through the porch he was working on.

The father-of-two sustained serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, after London Ambulance Service and an air ambulance attended.

His widow Jane Fisher paid tribute to the people who tried to save her husband’s life, after the inquest at West London Coroner’s Court.

She said: “We all miss him so much and he has left a massive hole in our lives and everyone that knew him.

“I have found some peace from today being able to see, meet and say a huge thank you to the people that tried so hard so save him and keep him alive.”

Coroner Chinyere Inyama said police confirmed there had been no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Fisher’s death.

A statement from Mrs Fisher, read by Mr Inyama in the court, said his family and friends were still trying to come to terms with the loss.

She added: “It is getting harder for us, not easier as some people say.”

Mr Inyama began proceedings by reading background on Mr Fisher, provided by his wife, and told the court he enjoyed spending time with his children Frank, 16, and Charlotte, 13.

Kate Ricketts, whose porch Mr Fisher was working on, recalled discovering the tradesman after he fell from his scaffolding.

She said: “I heard a crash and Mr Fisher was lying on the floor bleeding - I called the emergency services, who arrived quite quick.”

Mrs Ricketts added her neighbour, Leon Duggan, carried out mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the unconscious builder after calling 999.

Giving evidence, Mr Duggan said: “I forget the conversation exactly but I discussed with her that Mr Fisher was on his side and had lost blood.

“She told me it was important he was on his back.”

Anne Okoisor, from the Health and Safety Executive, said the bandstand scaffolding Mr Fisher was working ought to have had rails or double rails attached. A jury of 11 people returned a verdict of accidental death.
