Waldegrave School in Twickenham celebrated the official opening of its new sixth form centre last week.
The new buildings were funded by Richmond Council, providing 280 places for 16 to 18-year-olds.
It includes specialist science laboratories, a sixth form library and seminar rooms, a new sports hall and new kitchen.
Councillor Paul Hodgins, cabinet member for schools, said: "Waldegrave has long been an outstanding school.
"I'm very happy that it is now able to offer our borough's students the option of a sixth form, which is an established tradition of English schools."
Headteacher Philippa Nunn said: “We are delighted with the new facilities which have given the sixth form their own specialist area and a much needed sports hall and new canteen for the whole school.”
The sixth form will admit boys, a first for the Sixth Cross Road school.
