More international fans than ever before are expected to attend next year's Rugby World Cup, a recent study has shown.

England 2015 commissioned EY to report on the predicted economic and social benefits the tournament will bring to its host cities.

It predicts to World Cup will generate up to £2.2bn as well as adding £982m to the national GDP.

Other highlights include £85m being invested in infrastructure, 41,000 jobs supported nationwide and a higher number of foreign visitors than any other Rugby World Cup.

England 2015 chief executive Debbie Jevans said: “Rugby World Cup 2015 is set to create a wide range of economic opportunities across many different sectors.

“Whether through investment in infrastructure, supporting jobs or generating revenue in fanzones, the economic benefits will be shared around our 11 host cities and beyond.”

Minister for sport Helen Grant said: “Hosting the tournament next year will further cement the UK’s reputation in hosting major sporting events, create additional jobs and I’m extremely encouraged by the £1bn contribution the competition will make to the economy.”
