A police community support officer from Richmond has added another award for her service to the Metropolitan Police to her collection.

PCSO Guinnie Mooneesawmy was nominated for a British Association of Women in Policing (Bawp) award for excellence as a staff member and received the international equivalent of the award in Winnipeg, Canada, last month.

She was presented with the second award by Cressida Dick, Bawp president, on Tuesday morning before a surprise reception later that day at the Sun Inn, Richmond.

PCSO Mooneesawmy said: "I am most grateful for getting the award and it's nice to know what I'm doing is appreciated.

"I won't change what I'm doing, I'll still be doing everything I can to help people and protect them.

"It's nice that people realise what I've been doing. "People have been coming up to me and thanking me and saying how safe they feel when they see me in the town centre"

The evening celebration was attended by many, including Richmond's borough commander Chief Superintendent Colin Kennedy and Zac Goldsmith, MP for Richmond Park.

John Coates, chairman of the police liaison group for South Richmond, described PCSO Mooneesawmy as a "reassuring presence" within the borough.

He said: "Richmond's community - the residents, shopkeepers and others - have been very fortunate to have Guinnie working in their midst as a PCSO for more than 11 years."

PCSO Mooneesawmy is one of the longest-serving community officers in London, having arrived in the South Richmond ward in September 2003.

Her other achievements include setting up Richmond Business Watch, a regular meeting for all shop managers, town councillors and Mr Goldsmith.
