A body was pulled from the River Thames near Kew Bridge yesterday.

Police, London Ambulance and the coastguard were called at about 5.30pm on Sunday, October 19, and the body of a man, believed to be in his 70s, was recovered from the water.

The man has not yet been identified and Hounslow police are working to establish his identity and to inform his next of kin.

Georgie Hart, 35, from East Sheen saw the emergency services at the scene yesterday.

She said: "I was with a friend and we saw the rescue boat go to the island and put a white cover over the body before the police and ambulance team arrived.

"The ambulance men asked us what we saw but we hadn't seen much other than the body being covered up.

"The rescue boat then came to the jetty to collect the police and medics who then boated over to the island."
