The manager of a pub in Twickenham has spoken of his shock after a brawl broke out at his establishment on Friday night.

Two men were taken to hospital and four men were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after the fight at The Bear, which took place by the pub's entrance shortly after 11pm.

The pub in York Street was closed on Saturday with a police cordon in place and bloodied bandages left on the floor outside.

Jason Tucker, the Bear's manager, said: "The reason it stayed shut is one of the lads had to go to hospital and the police were waiting on checks.

"I have been here two-and-a-half years and have never had anything like this happen before.

"I am very upset at the moment because of what has happened."

The injured men are not believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 11.13pm on Friday, September 19, to York Street, Twickenham.

"We sent two ambulance crews and a single responder in a car to the scene to treat two men.

"They were taken to hospital but not as a priority."

On Saturday, residents and businesses discussed the aftermath on Twitter.

Steve Hills tweeted: "Does anyone know why the Bear pub in Twickenham had police cordon all day with bloodied bandages left lying on the ground?"

Milestone Commercial, a property specialist, also tweeted: "Seems to be a proper crime scene outside the bear #twickenham Paramedic debris on the pavement."

The four men arrested have been bailed to return to a west London police station in mid-November pending further enquiries.
