Parents can find out more about plans for a new secondary school in Twickenham.

Earlier this year, Richmond College and Haymarket Media Group announced plans to create a new campus containing both education and enterprise facilities on the Egerton Road site.

The development would include a new building and facilities for Richmond College, a new home for Clarendon School, a new UK headquarters for Haymarket’s 1,100 staff and a new secondary free school to open in September 2017.

David Ansell, principal of Richmond College, said it was an exciting development with the opportunity for Haymarket to bring its expertise to an education and enterprise campus.

For the free school to go ahead, the proposals must be signed off by the Department for Education (DfE) and gain the support of parents, who are invited to register their interest.

If approved, the school would be a five-form of entry non-selective, co-educational, non-faith secondary school with sixth form provision at Richmond College.

Kevin Costello, chief executive of Haymarket, said: “Haymarket Media Group has been in Richmond for 35 years and we are deeply committed to this new education and enterprise partnership with Richmond College.

“We believe that the development of a new free school will not only help to improve the quality of education for young people in the borough, but will also help to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to build a successful career in the future.”

Lord True, leader of Richmond Council, said: “This new school would provide high quality education, with a curriculum designed in discussion with all the partners and other local schools – but will have the added benefit of guidance, advice and opportunities from one of the UK's largest privately owned media companies.

“I hope that local parents agree that this is a unique opportunity, one that should be considered for the future of their children.”

A new website will be launched on November 12 with more information and the chance for people to register interest at reec.org.uk.

Events will also be held for people to find out more at Richmond College, in Egerton Road, Twickenham, from 7pm to 8.30pm on November 14 and November 27.
