Extra school places could be available in Richmond after the council announced expansion plans.

Vineyard Primary School in Friars Stile Road, Richmond, could permanently increase its annual reception intake from 60 pupils to 90, from September 2014, if Richmond Council’s plans go ahead.

The school is rated outstanding by Ofsted and has more applicants than places.

Councilllor Paul Hodgins, cabinet member for schools, said: “In proposing to increase the school’s intake, we are aiming to ensure that we provide a first-class education to as many children in the borough as possible so that parents have certainty in advance of applying that places will be provided.

“This proposal is part of our 10-year strategy for providing high-quality school places in the borough. We promised residents that we would provide more places and that is exactly what we are doing.”
