A light dusting of snow greeted residents as they woke up to frosty conditions this morning.

People were on high alert because of the forecasted dangerous weather conditions but fears over travel chaos have so far been unfounded, with trains and buses in the borough running smoothly.

People posted photos of the snow on Twitter.

Emiley Ariel said: “Snowy Teddington is so cute it looks like a gingerbread village.”

Me b wrote: “Properly snowing in Teddington now, lots of big thick flakes.”

Wintry showers are expected to continue throughout the day, which could cause travel problems, and there may be heavier snowfall overnight.

All schools in the borough are open today and drivers are warned to be careful on the roads as temperatures continue to plummet.

Richmond Council’s gritters have been out in a bid to battle icy conditions and make roads safer.

Andy Page, Met Office chief forecaster, said: “We expect rain, sleet and snow to affect many parts of the UK over the next day or so, with eastern areas of Britain seeing the most snowfall.

“With some very low temperatures overnight we expect ice to cause some impacts too and people should be aware that there is likely to be some travel disruption.”
