AT BRENTFORD Police Court Ernest Downham, a tram driver, of 82, Amyand Park Road, Twicken-ham, was summoned for having driven a tram car at a greater speed than ten miles per hour. Mr O Hanson defended. Police-sergeant 107 T stated that on September 11 he was on duty in Richmond Road, Twickenham and saw the defendant driving an electric tram car towards Twickenham. As he appeared to be coming at a furious rate witness signalled to Police Constable 752 T who held a stop watch and recorded the speed at 16 miles 155 yards per hour. Defendent said: "I did not think I was going so fast, as a van was in my way part of the way."
A meeting of the Free Library Committee was held on Monday evening, when we understand that the site for the new free library, which is to be built at a cost of £6,000, given by Mr Andrew Carnegie, was decided. The site is situated in Queens Road, part of the Hollies Estate. The portion secured by the committee, thanks to Mr J H S Lawton and Mr J H Broad, has a frontage of 80 feet to the Queens Road and a depth of 92 feet. The price to be paid for this is £750, a sum which the committee has made itself responsible for, one member having contributed £100.
