Garth Groombridge, author of Teddington, Twickenham and the Hamptons - Past and Present, writes: “My cousins and nieces and I are attempting to research our family tree, and we have started collating old family photos. “And the picture above is from the collection I inherited from my mother.

“My mother, who died just a few weeks ago at the age of nearly 89, after six years of Alzheimer's is in the front row, second from the left.

“But who are the other people, and where was the picture taken?

“My mother was Bessie Emma Anderson, born December 1919, who lived at 100 Church Road, Teddington until July 1944. “I am unable to say whether this photo is from that period, or immediately after.

“If post-war, then from 1946 my mother was Bessie Groombridge, living in St Margarets (perhaps the Godstone or Kenley Road area), although from about 1950 she was living with my grandmother in the Nissen hut at 20 Somerset Road, now the site of a small block of flats on the corner of Stuart Grove.

“She worked in a number of different jobs, including shop work. “Can these be her work colleagues? I estimate the photo to have been taken circa 1942-1952, at the latest.

“Perhaps someone might recognise some of the other faces.”
