An open afternoon will be held at historic Osterley House, Isleworth, on Sunday to try to recruit new volunteers.

The house has stunning 18th century architecture and volunteers will be able to spend the afternoon welcoming visitors to the building and bringing the rooms to life by telling the stories of the people who used to live there.

The garden is currently being restored and volunteers will be able to help the gardeners to plant new flower beds and keep them looking at their best all summer long.

Volunteers are also needed to help some of the less able visitors by driving the shuttle bus or lending out the battery cars, as well as selling raffle tickets, helping with school visits and events or film crews.

Sian Harrington, property manager, said: "There is something to suit everyone, whether you want to develop an interest, learn new skills or meet new people; whether you want to be indoors or out, meeting visitors or helping behind the scenes.

"There is no minimum time commitment required and no previous experience is necessary, as full training will be given".

There are already almost 200 people who give their time and expertise to help preserve the house, garden and park and who work to keep the property open to the public.

Ms Harrington said: "We have a great team of volunteers at Osterley.

"Everyone plays an important part in ensuring visitors enjoy their day here.

"We would love to hear from anyone who would like to get involved.'' If you are interested in finding out more, the open afternoon will be held on Sunday, between 1pm and 3pm.

There will be a chance to discover more about helping at Osterley as well as meet some of the volunteers who work there and find out about the work they do.
