Parrot flies the nest during Ashes celebrations

A HAMPTON Wick woman is on the look out for her parrot, who disappeared on Monday afternoon.

Ashleigh Fleming was watching the final throws of the England v Australia Ashes series on television but her parrot seemed less keen on the action.

"We were watching the cricket on television and we let out a huge roar. The parrot got scared and flew straight out the window, we haven't seen him since," she said.

The missing bird has a grey body with a long bright red tail and a white and grey face, and a reward is being offered for its return.

Ashleigh has been checking the local pet shops and is roaming the streets looking for her feathered friend, she wants anyone who spots him to call her on 0777 9053 783.

"I am desperate to get him back," she added.

l A Richmond man proudly handed over his cherished England flag to Ashes cricket champion Michael Vaughan just before the trophy ceremony on Monday afternoon at The Oval.

Right after the triumphant win, England's captain sent a security guard to ask Neil Brien, 31, if the the team could use his England flag for their victory lap around the roaring stadium.

Mr Brien's coveted flag, which has accompanied him around the globe supporting the England cricket team, can be seen draped around Vaughan's shoulders in many of the memorable shots of England's long-awaited sporting triumph.

As part of the Barmy Army, Mr Brien travelled around the country this summer following the Ashes. And next year he will journey to Australia to catch his team in action.

Amidst the cheering hoards of fans in Trafalgar Square at Tuesday's victory parade, Mr Brien said: "The only flag they had was my one, I know because of the blue tack on the corner."

Sadly, Mr Brien has not seen his flag since the celebrations at the Oval, but his girlfriend did manage to snag the ribbons that were tied to the team's official celebratory bottle of champagne.

"I don't care about getting it back, I'm honoured actually. It was absolutely brilliant, something I will never forget."
