A MAN murdered his wife then threw himself under a train in a horrific chain of events in Mortlake, which have left an 18-month-old boy orphaned.
Jamie Birtwistle stabbed his wife in the kitchen of their Carlton Road home, then fled to Mortlake station where he laid on the lines and was killed by an approaching train.
Police were alerted to the scene by Birtwistle's mother, who lived with the couple and also a neighbour, who reported hearing 'a loud domestic disturbance' at the house at 10.30pm on April 21.
They found 27-year-old Thai Bang On Klamkorsuk, lying in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor with a single stab wound to the neck.
Approximately ten minutes later British Transport Police said a man had laid on the tracks near Mortlake station and had been killed by a train.
The 18-month old son has been taken into the care of social services. Post mortems were held on April 22 at Kingston Hospital mortuary which established that the woman died from a single stab wound and the man from multiple injuries.
An incident room has opened under DI Tim Grattan-Kane. Anyone with information that may assist is asked to call the incident room on 8721 4054 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
